You can't ignore that which calls to you.
More cicadas? She so detested the loathsome creatures. Her frustration grew. She was attempting to enjoy the outdoors, to commune, to connect. They were a disruption and a bother, and gave her such a fright. Her eyes slid in and out of focus against the great tree.
“You shouldn’t keep doing that. You’ve nearly decimated their numbers.”
She huffed. “Does it matter? What good are they?”
“Every creature serves the good." She eyed him plainly, seeming unimpressed. She might have been thinking of mosquitoes, as well - those awful pests.
Unsatisfied and able to tell she wasn't absorbing the seriousness of his words, he continued.
"They take from the tree, then return all they’ve taken. The birds numbers grow, as do the bats you’re so fond of, at least, when they’re early enough. Every creature serves the good. You would do well to remember.” And all she could do was nod solemnly.
